Thelma Jane Miller, 89, of Danville, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, August 31, 2008 at her home. Thelma was born on November 19, 1918 in Danville, the daughter of Carl and Ivy (Fugate) Johnson. She married Maurice Miller on March 13, 1937 in Danville. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1986. She is survived by her one brother- Floyd (Ruth) Johnson of Danville; one sister- Eleanor Boller of Mahomet, Illinois; two special nieces- Judy West of California and Phyllis Thomas of Danville; one cousin- Louise Potter of Danville; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who Thelma loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband, one brother- Alton Gene Johnson, three sisters- Norma Thomas, Eunice Mackey-Ross and Evelyn Johnson. Thelma was a graduate of Henning High School. She worked for 16 years at R & S Printing. Prior to working at R & S Printing, Maurice and Thelma had a farm in Blount Township. In 1998 the farmhouse was moved to Kennekuk Park, where it became part of Bunker Hill Village. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Church of the Nazarene, and was a charter member of the church and taught Sunday school there for 42 years. Church and serving God was very important to Thelma. Spending time with family and friends was also very important to Thelma. She loved children and was always easy going. She loved everyone and always had a smile on her face. She also enjoyed reading the Bible, Reader Digest and Romance Stories. Thelma also spent some of her time writing poetry and being involved in pot luck dinners at the church and Vermilion House. A Celebration of the Life of Thelma J. Miller will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Pastor Bryan Sampson officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in Thelmas name to the Cedar Grove Church of the Nazarene.
