Thelma Faye Francis Spencer, 103, of Fithian, IL passed away at her home surrounded by family on January 29, 2026 at 3:34 AM.
Thelma was born on September 19, 1922 the daughter of Louis and Rose (Gerdes) McBride in Cabool, MO. She married Vernon Junior Francis on January 1, 1941 in Oakwood, IL and he preceded her in death on December 12, 1968. She later married Paul C. Spencer on August 7, 1977 in Fithian and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2001.
Survivors include her son, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Francis of Oakwood, IL, her grandchildren, Lesli Bolton of Oakwood, IL, Brooke (Joey) Mayberry of Fithian and Cary (Michelle) Disney of Kenly, NC, her great-grandchildren, Jordan Francis, Kyle Williams, Austin Bolton, Caleb Bolton, Jacob Knipe, Abby Bolton, Brody Bolton, Andrea Lutz, Abigail (Bryce) Seeley, Jaynie Disney, Jessica (Derek) Repinecz, Clayton (Kimberly) Walker, Riley Walker, her great great-grandchildren, Malaya Lutz, Theo Seeley, Caiden Seeley, Mason Disney, Anabell Garcia-Disney, Angelica Garcia-Disney, Ayden Repinecz, Bryce Repinecz, Charlee Repinecz, and one great great-great grandson Liam Garcia-Disney as well as a niece Lori (Larry) Smith, nephew Larry (Suzy) McBride and great nieces and nephews.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Vernon Junior Francis and Paul C. Spencer, beloved daughter, Marian Deane Disney, son-in-law, Allen Disney, cherished granddaughter, Staci Disney, two brothers, Miles and Leonard McBride, one sister, Geraldine Hawkins, and two nephews, JR and David Hawkins.
Thelma was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church and later the Oakwood United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Moose and Elks Lodge 332. Thelma worked as a Rural Substitute Mail Carrier, Medical Records at Lakeview Hospital, Ward Secretary at Mercy Hospital and was the Administrator of Danville Manor.
Thelma was a loving farm wife and mom. She enjoyed taking care of her home and family. Thelma cherished truck and combine rides with her son, taking walks and relaxing on her back patio, lunch dates with Ann Freeman, playing golf and even played golf on her 100th birthday with her dear friend, Carol Miller.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Oakwood, Illinois 105 East S. Main St. Oakwood, Illinois 61858. Pastors Trevor Oetting and Patti Wise will co-officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Oakwood, IL. Visitation will be held from 1-2:00 PM on Friday, February 6, 2026 at the funeral home in Oakwood.
Memorial donations may be made to the Oakwood United Methodist Church, Batestown United Methodist Church, or I See You Ministries c/o Cary Disney.
