Thelma Christensen, 92, of Danville, passed away at 5:43 AM on July 7, 2012 at her residence in Danville. Thelma was born on June 11, 1920 in Catlin, IL the daughter of Roy "Asa" Acey and Anna Marie (Ferguson) Rogers. She married Cecil "Cye" Ray Childs in 1939. Cecil was killed in action during WWII in Luzon, Phillipine Islands May 27, 1945. Thelma later married Edward Christensen in 1951, he preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by two daughters- Mary Ann (Charles) Meyers of Danville and Rosemary (Larry) Dines of Danville and one surviving sister- Alice Whittington of Danville, six grandchildren- Cheri (Chester) Powell of Danville, Pam Thornsbrough of Danville, Jeanette (John) McNamara of Virginia, Dawn (Robert) Collins of Danville, Stephanie (James) Torrez of Danville, John Dines of Danville and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother- Walter Rogers and two sisters- Vivian White and June Bays. Thelma worked at General Electric of Danville for many years. She enjoyed training horses, attending horse shows and trail rides. She also enjoyed crocheting, religious and country music, spending time with her family and her three dogs. A Celebration of Thelma's Life will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials can be made in Thelma's name to the American Heart Association.
