Danville – Theda Mae “Teedie” McQuown, 97, of Danville, passed away at 10:10 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Hawthorne Inn of Danville. She was born January 5, 1928, in Danville to Joseph Louis and Velma Leona (Cox) Wakeland. She married Thomas R. “Dick” McQuown on June 29, 1947, in Danville. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2004.
She is survived by three children, David (Crystal) McQuown, Leslie (Kenneth) Merrill, and Teea (Daniel) Nys; 15 grandchildren, Amy (Thomas) Franklin, Ken (Dawn) Merrill, Tracey (Blue) Anderson, Jessica McQuown, Abby McQuown, Misty (Tim) Rose, Aaron (Brittani) Lane, Joe (Amy) Merrill, David (Jennifer) McQuown, Bobbie (Matt) Haton, Megan Rich, Ian (Erica) McQuown, Taylor (Chaise) Barrett, Keanan Nys, and Tanner McQuown; 51 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren with three more on the way; a sister, Helen Gouty; sisters-in-law, Joyce Wakeland, Cindy Wakeland, Sue Pollitt, and Jeanene McQuown; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Mark McQuown and Rick McQuown; and siblings, William Wakeland, Joseph Wakeland, Norma Hesler, Patricia Lanning, Sue Wakeland, and Daniel Wakeland.
Teedie graduated from Danville High School and was a stay-at-home mom to her five children. She later worked for several years as a cook at McKinley Elementary School in Danville. She also worked for Fannie Mae Candies. Teedie had previously attended Vermilion Heights United Methodist Church, but most recently was a member at Second Church of Christ in Danville. She loved crafts and especially enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and ceramics. Teedie also liked sitting down with a word search puzzle in her free time.
A service to celebrate the life of Theda “Teedie” M. McQuown will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Kiley Garrison will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, December 19, also at Sunset in Danville.
