Terry Lane Field

Terry Lane Field, 73, of Covington, went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2024. He was born on August 11, 1950, to Warren and Bernice Field in Olney, Illinois. While pursuing a degree in Education at Olney Central College, Terry met and later married the love of his life, Anita (Hampton) Field in 1971 - a marriage that would last for 52 years. Upon graduating from Greenville College in 1972, Terry began his teaching and coaching career in Newton, IL (72-77), Pontiac, IL (77- 80), and Chenoa, IL (80- 85), before moving to Covington, IN where he spent the remainder of his life (85-24).

Terrys life was characterized by faithfulness and consistency. For 39 years, he taught advanced math and physics at Covington High School, where he also coached boys and girls tennis and basketball. One of Terry's greatest honors was being recognized for the 2021 Indiana State Boys Tennis Coach of the Year. However, Terry's ultimate passion was for people, and he loved each of his students and athletes.

Most of all, Terry was known as a man of God who built everything in his life around his conviction in Scripture. Terrys life verse was Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. As a young boy, Terry became a Christian by responding to Billy Grahams gospel message on the television. And while his relationship with God was deeply personal, it also led to consistent service through ministry and missions. Terry led an FCA huddle for the past 50 years, as well as Bible studies in the community, school, and church, and prison ministries in the surrounding areas. Terry left a gospel imprint on his community, and his impact went far beyond Covington. Terry went on 45 mission trips all over the world with Athletes and Action, Jesus Film, and others, leading teams, sharing the gospel and showing Gods love in 49 different countries.

Other than his faith in Jesus, Terrys greatest joy was his family. His wife Anita was his best friend and ministry partner. He was a loving father to his three children through every stage of their lives. His eleven grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as "Coach," always felt known and cherished by him. His older brother, Bob, remained his close companion until the end. Terry and Anita also hosted ten foreign exchange students in their homes, each of which quickly became family.

Terry was preceded in death by his wife (Anita) on May 30, 2023. He is survived by his three children, Travis (Dawnelle), Tyler (Shawna), and Tiffany (Jeremy Treat); his grandchildren, Joel, Ethan, Maddie, Kayelee, Kya, Chloe, Celina, Ashlyn, Lauryn, Evelyn, and Katelyn; and his brother Bob (Karen) Field.

A celebration of Terrys life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 518 5th Street, Covington, IN 47932 with Pastors Andy Harkleroad and Jeremy Treat. The visitation will take place on Thursday, July 18th from 4:00-8:00pm (EST). The funeral will be on Friday, July 19th at 11:00am (EST). Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, IN.
