Terry A. Carter, 68, of Westville, went to be with God and lost loved ones on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. He was born on June 9, 1941, in London, KY, the son of Sammy and Lily Dovie Calhoun Carter. On September 25, 1965, Terry married Diana Dettman. She survives along with, (per Terry, two daughters and two sons), Julie (Ben) Carter Smith of Danville, and Jeff (Heather) Carter of Richmond, KY. His six grandchildren, Amber Smith, Ashley Smith, Alyssa Smith, all of Danville. Aiden Carter, Emma Carter, and Dylan Carter, all of Richmond, KY, and his great grandson, Wyatt Carter Smith also survives Terry. Other surviving family includes his two sisters, Jean (Curt) Majors, Carol (Steve) Ridge, his brother, Donald (Patricia) Carter, several nieces nephews, and close relatives and friends. His parents, granddaughter, Amanda Smith, his brother, Sammy Carter, and his sister, Peggy Carter, preceded Terry in death. Terry served in the National Guard from 1962 -1968. He retired from NACCO Materials Handling in 2004, after 40 years of service. His hobbies included target shooting, woodworking, landscaping, writing poems, and driving his truck. Most of all, Terry enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his entire family. He loved his grandchildren more than anything in the world. He means the world to all of them. He was the best husband, father, and grandfather that anyone could ever ask for. He also put his family first, and his family feels blessed to have had such a wonderful person in their lives. He will live in our hearts forever, and we will never let him go. Gone is the smiling face we loved so dear; Silent is the soft voice we loved to hear; Still are the hands that had a gentle touch Everything that we will miss so much. Our family will never again be the same The vital link is now gone from our chain We will only be parted from you for awhile One day we will again all see your smile Until that day you will live in our hearts Because there, we will never let you part. Time will pass and shadows will fall But our Loves remembrance will outlast it all. A Celebration of Terry Carters Life will began at 10:00am on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N.
