Kingman, Ind. -- Sylvia L. Coffing, 90, of rural Kingman, Indiana, passed away at 9:20 p.m. EDT Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, Indiana. She was born February 2, 1921 in Fountain County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Lucky and Florence Keller Abernathy. She married Joseph H. Coffing on January 2, 1941 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2009. Survivors include one daughter, Rita(Fred)Paxton of Veedersburg, Indiana; two sons, Roger(Patti)Coffing of Covington, Indiana and Greg(Lori)Coffing of Kingman, Indiana; 7 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Penny Coffing; 5 sisters and 6 brothers. Sylvia and her husband owned and operated Coffing Brothers Orchard south of Covington, Indiana for many years. She was a member of the West Liberty Church of Christ south of Covington; Yeddo (Indiana) O.E.S. and T.O.P.S. in Perrysville, Indiana. Sylvia enjoyed fishing and spending time with her many grandchildren; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. There will be no services. Per Sylvia's wishes cremation was accorded. Family request that contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana in charge of arrangements.
