Sylvia Elena Smith, 86, of Danville died on Sunday October 30th at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She was born on August 3rd, 1925 in Panama City Panama, the Republic of Panama, the daughter of Augusta N Arjona and SilviaVergara Arjona. She married Claude B Smith on February 14th, 1946 in Danville. He preceded her in death on August 2nd 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a step daughter Sally and an infant son Dennis. She is survived by three sons, David (Kathy) of Schaumburg, IL, Charles (Mary Kay) of Mahomet, IL, Thomas (Kelly) of Rochester Hills, MI, two step children Barbara Cotrill and Ben Smith as well as six grand children and eight great grandchildren. She particularly wanted to thank her niece Judy and her husband Bill Clem for all the things they've done for her and for being such good friends. Sylvia graduated from Balboa High School in Balboa Canal Zone and attended Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia and the University of Richmond. She worked for many years in banking and retired from the Palmer Bank in Danville. She was a Red Coat volunteer at Provena United Samaritan hospital, a hospice volunteer and a volunteer at the Danville Food Pantry. She was also a member of the Danville Garden Club. Sylvia enjoyed traveling, especially visiting her relatives in the Republic of Panama. She loved playing euchre and bridge and enjoyed being with her friends. She especially enjoyed the time she got to spend with her children, grand children and great children. Sylvia was a member St Paul's Catholic Church in Danville and often attended Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mahomet. She was cremated according to her wishes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 4th, 2011 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Faith in Action, Carle Hospice or WILL Radio and television.
