Catlin Sydney "Sam" G. Edwards, 86, of Catlin, passed away at 7:20 PM on October 10, 2023 at his home. He was born on September 11, 1937 in Soso, MS to Sidney E. and Hilanese (Musgrove) Edwards. He married Janice M. Neal on January 7, 1983 in Danville, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are six children, Leonard (Connie) Huffman of Rossville, IL, Loren (Kimberly) Huffman of Cloverdale, IN, Cynthia (Todd) Scott of Danville, IL, Cheryl Parrott of Kokomo, IN, Pam (Dean) Schimanski of St. Peters, MO, and Jason (Susie) Edwards of Catlin, IL; eighteen grandchildren, Callie Lankford, Brian Huffman, Jonathan Eckert, Lexie Parrott, Leah Parrott, Madeline, Erin, and Allison Schimanski, Brody Edwards, Jordan Edwards, Amber Slaughterbeck, Melissa Edwards, Josh Edwards, Tiffany Edwards, Nathan Davis, Becca Brown, Georgia Wooten, and Ashley Short; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Parrill; two sons, Jeff and Jerry Edwards; and two grandchildren, Rachel Parrott and Kyle Jackson.
Sam began his career at Danville Metal Stamping where he received his tool and die engineering training. He then went to work at Allith-Prouty as a sales rep. In 1964 Sam started his own company, Famaco, which he owned and operated until he sold it in 2013. Sam had fought through several issues with cancer over the years, but continued to work until he was 76. He was also a member of the Gao Grotto in Danville and the Fairview Sportsmans Club. Sam also spent a good deal of time bowling at Lincoln Lanes, which he did for over fifty years.
A service to celebrate the life of Sam Edwards will be held at 2 PM on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Chuck Powell will officiate. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service on Friday, also at Sunset in Danville. Donations in Sams name may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
