Suzanne 'Sue' Schifo

Suzanne Sue (Harcarik) Schifo, 91, of Westville, passed away at 10:00 a.m. Monday April 11, 2011. Sue was born on December 19, 1919, in Westville to Andrew and Mary (Soltis) Harcarik. She married Francis Schifo at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Chicago. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2005. She is survived by her three children, Jim (Alyce) Schifo of Westville, Marie (Larry) Smith of Westville, & Bob Schifo of Catlin. Sue is also survived by: her grandchildren, Michael Spiering, Patrick (Lynly) Spiering, Joseph (Krystyn) Smith, David (Jennifer) Schifo, Matthew (Jessica) Smith, & Sam Schifo; her seven great grandchildren, Morgan, Katie, Christian, Alexis, Benjamin, Isabella, & Brandon; and several nieces & nephews. Sue was preceded in death by: her husband; her parents; two sisters, Agnes and six brothers. She retired from Castles Business Equipment Company of Danville having worked in various business offices in California and Chicago. Sue was a member of St. Marys Church, St. Marys Altar & Rosary Society, and received honor of Life Membership for service at Martin F. Vutrick American Legion Auxiliary Unit #51 where she served as President and in various other capacities. Sue was past President of Vermilion County American Legion Auxiliary, and 18th District past Music Chairman. She was also a VA volunteer for many years, and helped in various community projects. Sue was also a member of the Women of Moose, Illinois, and Middlefork Audubon Society, National AARP, past Cub Scout Den Mother and committee member, and a member of the Slovak Lodge. Sue graduated from Westville High School in 1937. Sue and her husband, Frank, enjoyed all sports, especially involving family and all young athletes. Nothing was more important to Sue than family. Family and friends were always welcome and her home was a very busy, loving place for everyone to visit. Music was always an important part of her life. Keep a song in your heart and you will never be lonely. A Funeral Mass will be held at10:30am, Friday, April 15, 2011, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Westville, with Father Timothy Sauppe officiating. Visitation will be 4-7pm, Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, A Life Celebration Home, Westville, with a Rosary to begin at 4:00pm. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Marys Church, Middlefork Audubon Society, Boy Scouts of America, or donors choice.
