Suzanne E. “Sue” Oths Wells, age 91, longtime resident of Wellston, OH, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026 in Danville, IL.
Born Suzanne Kronauge on May 24, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Paul W. Kronauge and Ruby L. Weidner Kronauge.
Sue was a 1952 graduate of Julienne High School in Dayton. She continued her education for a year and a half at the University of Dayton before getting married and starting a family.
Once her family was raised Sue attended Rio Grande College where she received both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and an Associate Degree in Nursing.
Sue was a loving homemaker, wonderful mom, inspiring educator, and a caring nurse. She was a faithful and very involved member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston where she was a member of the choir, Altar and Rosary Society, advisory board, church and nursing home Eucharistic minister, lector, and a teacher’s aide at the school.
Sue loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, riding horses, golfing and taking walks. She was an avid reader, an excellent seamstress, a former Wellston High School assistant softball coach, and past director of the Wellston Summer Recreation Program and member of the Recreation Board.
Sue was always willing to volunteer whenever she could including several years with Bob at the Cincinnati Reds spring training in Sarasota, Florida, the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and at the Columbus Arts Festival. Habitat for Humanity was a big part of Sue’s life. She spent a year with Habitat in Americus, Georgia where she worked alongside Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. Later, she helped start the Jackson County Habitat for Humanity organization where she served on the board of directors and as secretary for several years. She continued to help families build and improve homes for the rest of her life.
Sue is survived by her children, Michael Oths, and wife, Susan Burke, Dr. Kathryn Oths, and husband, Dr. William Dressler, Christine (Cricket) Masson, and husband, Mark, Jennifer Martindill, and husband, Greg, and Amy Montgomery, and husband, Eric; grandchildren, Jacob Oths, Corey Masson (Allie), Katie Castro (Josh), Matt Masson (Rachel), Natalie Tassio (Steve), Nigel Martindill (Megan), Anna Martindill (Rodney Sullivan), Kent Montgomery (Amberly), and Evan Montgomery; great-grandchildren, Linwood, Rowan, Kyla, Stevie Mae, Adrienne, Luna, Demi, Gwen, Claire, Kay and Mila; along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends, The Lunch Bunch and especially The Ingalls Family and Mark Beatty who took special care of her in her later years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. “Bob” Wells; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Peggy Kronauge; and the father of her children, Joseph Oths.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with a Rosary service following the calling hours at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 31, at 11 a.m. at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston concelebrated by Father Donald Maroon and Father David Young.
Per Sue's request, please wear yellow or spring colors to celebrate her Life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Church or Habitat for Humanity in her name.
Private burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Wellston.
