Susanne Collom

Susanne (Neild) Collom, 90, died on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at her home in rural Georgetown. She was born November 5, 1935 to Robert and Erschel Neild, the 9th of 12 children. She married Larry Dean Collom on September 11, 1954 in Georgetown. Larry preceded her in death, March 17, 2017.

Larry and Susie had 6 children, which Susie referred to as the ‘1/2 dozen’. She is survived by five of her six children: Charles (Becky) Collom, Thomas (Valerie) Collom, Brenda Opperman, Mark (Sheila) Collom and Lora (Andy) Kyger: Her grandchildren; Justin Collom, Nick (Brandi) Kyger, Bradley (Tiffany) Collom, Jennifer (Dean) Parkinson, Christopher (Britney) Opperman, Ashley (Allan Morrison) Bridgewater, Weslee (Nick) Dodds, Zachary Collom, Neil (Chelsie) Kyger, Matthew (Blair) Collom, Luke (Karlee) Collom, Norris (Sarah-Kate) Kyger, Emily (Matthew) Herlache, and her great grandchildren; Bryleigh, Natileigh, Brantley, Kameron, Asher, Charleigh, Graham, Emmett, Karleigh, Hemi, Jolee, Lilie, Lorynn, Lathan, Lucy, Kapree, Meadow, Eleanor, Atlas, Juniper, Rosemary, Alexander, Samantha, Kiersten, Maxwell, Thornton, and Willow. She also leaves behind two sisters-in-law and three generations of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her daughter Cathy, her grandson Nathan Kyger, granddaughter Natasha Kyger, her parents, and eleven siblings.

She was a lifelong member of Liberty Church, enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling with her husband, visiting children and grandchildren, spending time with her extended Neild family, singing (especially hymns), and birdwatching at her home in Yankee Branch. She also enjoyed sending cards to family and friends for special occasions or just a note to cheer them.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 4-7 pm (CST), 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home’s Houghton- Leasure Chapel, located at 200 E. West Street in Georgetown, IL. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 10 am (CST), also at the funeral home. She will be buried at Whitlock Cemetery next to Larry following services.
