Danville – Susan E. Townsley, 76, of Danville passed away at 5:45 PM on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Goldwater Care of Danville. She was born on August 13, 1949, in Danville to William L. and Marie Alice (Barkman) Townsley.
She is survived by four siblings, William (Debby) Townsley of Danville, J.D. (Gaylene) Townsley of Elm Grove, WI, Matthew R. Townsley of Columbus, OH, and Martha (Jack) Lee of Hoonah, AK; as well as numerous cousins from both the Townsley and Barkman families.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Susan was a talented singer and, in her younger years, utilized her voice talent professionally as a night club entertainer. She continued her performances for as long as her health would allow, but in more recent times still enjoyed singing in her church choir and spent a season lending her voice to the Sweet Adelines. Susan was also a person of faith and remained active at the First Presbyterian Church in Danville.
Susan was blessed to have met the love of her life, George Lucas, and together they enjoyed their time until George’s passing. Those that knew Susan will remember that she always enjoyed a good joke and that she loved people. Whether you were family or friend, Susan would often say “I love you” when parting ways. From her earlier days of singing and entertaining until her passing, Susan loved to bring joy and comfort to those that she would meet.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Susan M. Townsley will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Franklin St., Danville, IL 61832. Reverend Macy Ruple will officiate. A private burial will follow at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM – 11 AM prior to the service on Saturday, also at First Presbyterian. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Susan’s name may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
Please join Susan’s family in sharing memories, photos, and videos of her life through her tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
