On January 23, 2022, after a recent illness, the Lord took Sue Elaine Tuggle on her last glorious trip, home to Heaven. Sue was born on October 24, 1952 in Indiana. She was the daughter of Judith Abernathy and Dale Leon "Lee" Abernathy of Covington, Indiana.
Sue married her high school sweetheart, Skip Epperson, in 1971, and they had two children: Ronald (Jennifer) Epperson of Covington, Indiana and Ami Epperson of St. Petersburg, Florida. Sue and Skip remained lifelong friends until her death. Sue later married Timothy Tuggle and they had one child, (arguably her favorite), Grant (Emily Harmon) Tuggle of Covington, Indiana. Sue spent the last two decades with her significant other, Richard Pruitt. Sue especially enjoyed their numerous road trips and day trips together. He survives.
Sue graduated from Covington High School in 1970. She later attended Danville Area Community College and studied accounting. She worked as the Office Manager of Pruitt Trucking in Tilton, Illinois for the last twenty years. Sue previously worked at Maple Corner Restaurant.
Sue spent the first years of her childhood in Cates, Indiana. She often spoke of her fond memories of that time. Sue later moved with her family to a farm located on Portland Arch in Covington, Indiana.
Whether it was a trip to a distant destination or a road trip to Corydon, Indiana, Sue loved traveling. Some of her favorite trips included spring break vacations taken with her daughter, Ami, son, Grant, and grandson, Blake. Sue also especially loved her trips to Green Turtle Cay, New York City, Anna Maria Island, Michigan, Pennsylvania and The Outer Banks. Sue and her daughter Ami, had a future trip planned to visit Maine to celebrate Sues upcoming 70th birthday, a trip that was a lifelong dream for Sue. Anyone who went on a trip with Sue, always returned with wonderful and hilarious memories.
Sue loved Jesus and her Country. She also loved reading and was a voracious reader, especially of historical novels. Sue also loved caring for her plants and flowers, discussing politics and watching old westerns and British television shows. Sue could often be found at her kitchen table, watching British comedies. We will miss this beyond words. Sue also loved fall weather, celebrating her birthday month and sitting with her son, (and neighbor) Ron, by his firepit.
Sue was dedicated to her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren including Blake (Danielle Perry) Epperson, Trevor (Courtney) Rennick and Nate (Brittany) Epperson, as well as her great grandchildren, Claire Rennick and Sapphire Yockey.
Sue also enjoyed spending time with her close friends. Close friends include Diana Walters, Gayle Spring and Debra Hole, with whom she enjoyed many great conversations and outings.
Sue is survived by her children and siblings, Brenda (Bruce) Starkey of Clinton, IN, Liz (Andy) Anderson of Naples, FL, Kevin (Jill) Abernathy of Covington, IN, Eric (Janelle) Abernathy of Covingon, IN and Kris Cates of Covington, IN. Sue loved them very much and always looked forward to seeing them.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry (Nancy) Abernathy, whom she also loved very much.
We hope that from this obituary, that you get a picture of the spirited, fun-loving, generous, compassionate, nurturing and witty person that Sue was. Sues family and friends are devastated by her death and we will miss her more than words can describe. We will grieve her loss until the day we meet again in Heaven.
