Sue Steiger

Sue Steiger died on September 10, 2010 the second day of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashona, 5771 in the Jewish calendar. She was born in Danville on July 24th, 1941. An active member of Congregation Israel all of her life, Sue was a devout Jew in the tradition of her beloved mother Ann Steiger and her maternal grandparents. She followed the Jewish dietary laws even as it became increasingly difficult to do so. Sue worked at the University of Illinois Library for a number of years before retiring. She had a green thumb and loved caring for her many plants and working in the garden. An ardent supporter of the Danville Humane Society, Sue loved cats and cared lovingly for many during her life. Sue overcame a number of serious illnesses in her lifetime and demonstrated her resiliency in the way she dealt with them. She touched many people in her lifetime, especially in the last few years when she had many obstacles to overcome. She was preceded in death by her father Saul Steiger, her mother Ann Steiger and her brother Robert Steiger. She is survived by her brother Barry. She will be missed. Services will be held at the grave site in Springhill Cemetery at 11:00 am on Sunday, September 12. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, is handling arrangements.
