Danville - Sue K. Hinkle, 91, of Danville, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was born on October 1, 1934, in Albany, Kentucky, to Culbert Barnett and Lula (Smith) Ray. Sue married George Franklin Hinkle on November 20, 1954, and they shared 56 years together before he passed away on January 4, 2011.
Sue and George made their home in Rossville, Illinois, from 1956 to 1993, where they raised their daughters, Debbie and Donna. They later lived in Bismarck from 1993 to 2007, and then in Danville from 2007 on.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Ron) Riggs of Alvin and Donna (Dale) DeNeal of Danville; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Clark, Kathy Knapp, Dustin (Kari) DeNeal, Diana (Eric) Friedmann, and Derek DeNeal; and her great-grandchildren, Tristan and Kylie Knapp, Owen and Ethan Clark, Eden, Zeke, and Declan DeNeal, and Jude and Avery Friedmann. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Gail Ray and Ruth Hinkle, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, Sue was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sam Ray.
Sue worked as a childcare provider and later as a home health aide before retiring. She enjoyed meeting her YMCA friends, known as The Sassy Bunch, for exercise and social time. Sue and George also liked playing Euchre and going on bus trips with friends.
After moving to Liberty Village, Sue enjoyed working on puzzles with her friend Marilyn and playing cards with Jo Anne and Marilyn. Her family is grateful for all the friends and the staff at Liberty Village who cared for and supported Sue.
Sue’s faith was important to her, and she stayed active in her churches, first at Rossville Church of Christ and later at Second Church of Christ in Danville. She especially loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
