Steven Gene Trosper

Steven “Steve” Gene Trosper, 77, of Perrysville, Indiana, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026, at The Lane House, surrounded by his family. He had fought a brave battle with skin cancer for several years.

Steve was born July 29, 1948, in Danville, Illinois, to the late Warren and Martha (Lawson) Trosper. He married Mary (Wentworth) Lock on September 23, 1978, and together they had two daughters. They later divorced.

Steve attended Perrysville High School and North Vermillion High School after consolidation, graduating in the second graduating class of 1966. He briefly attended Purdue University, but began working for Continental Can Company and U.S. Can Company, later retiring from Ball Corporation in 2010 as a union machinist.

In his spare time, he enjoyed trapping, often taking his daughters with him. He also enjoyed reading, electronics, muzzleloader building, gardening, fishing, and photography. He even had a photography studio, Kathonica Studio. He never missed his daughters’ activities or his granddaughters’ softball games. He also loved to go to as many North Vermillion High School football games as possible. After retirement, he loved fishing with his family and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Veronica (Travis) Spencer and Kathleen (Roberto) Fresses, both of Crawfordsville, Indiana; his sister, Renata (Joe) Williams of Covington, Indiana; his grandchildren, Sierra Grimes, Brianna Grimes, and Robert Fresser; and his great-granddaughters, Sariyah Williams and Katerina Miller.

He is also survived by his nephew, Todd Williams; Robert (“Bob”) Christy; Steven Christy; along with several cousins and friends, especially Alan Wait and Robert (“Bob”) Gibson, who he thought of as brothers.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Roberto Fresses; his brother-in-law, Joe Williams; and his great-granddaughter, Brooklee Lynn Williams.

He always told everyone, “I’ll see you around,” as his way of saying goodbye. Dad was loved by all, and we will see him “around.”

Visitation will be held on July 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM EST at Sunset Funeral Home – DeVerter Chapel, 215 North Division Street, Cayuga, Indiana 47928.
