Steven A Ward, 53, of Westville, passed away at 10:28am, Friday, December 21, 2018, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was born on December 22, 1964, in Danville, the son of William and Bonita. He married Ronda Jo Austin on September 30, 2018. She will miss him dearly.
He will also be missed by: his mother, Bonita (Greg) Teeters of Danville; his sons, Doug (Tori) Ward of Charleston, & Matthew Ward of Westville: his daughter, Rachelle (Dante) Baxter of Westville; his step-children, Stephen, Eric, Matthew, Shane, Andrew, all of Danville & Stephanie of Florida: his sister, Shelli (Bud) Edmiston of Danville; his nephew, Christopher; and his grandchildren, Jayden, Anessa, Reece, Cullen, Lillian, William, Eric Jr., Matthew Jr., Lucas, Jacob, Brittany, Luna Jo, Sophie,& Rosie. He was preceded in death by: his father, William Dale Ward; his two aunts, Donna Aguirre & Gloria Smith; and his uncle, Ralph Ward.
Steven loved his job and began his career at Famaco Corp. as a finisher and painter then at SMF Corp as a painter, inventory control, machinist, as well as a certified welder. He was a truck driver for 20 years working for various companies such as Tyson foods, Conway, Ravens Trucking, and others until finding a home at R+L Carriers in which he retired. He has 1.75 million safe-driving miles and won numerous safety awards from Illinois to Arkansas. Steven competed statewide in Truck Driving competitions placing 4 out of 6 events he competed in. He was a Volunteer Fireman for Westville Fire Department. He was also elected to Elwood Township Board in 2016. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, dirt tracks, hiking, driving long trips, and working with wood and metal. Steven loved helping others and yes, even you too, Nick Miller, "love ya buddy". Above all, he loved his family and cherished time spent with them.
A celebration of Steven's life will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, December 29,2018, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville. Visitation will be held 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, December 28, 2018 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville.
