Stephen Arthur Tallman

Stephen Arthur Tallman, 74, of Danville, IL passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

Stephen was born on April 2, 1951 in Danville, the son of Arthur E. and Vera M. (Chandler) Tallman. He married Barbara Sue Sturgeon on November 7, 1970, in Danville, IL.

Stephen is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Matthew Stephen Tallman.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara S. Tallman, his son, Brian S. (Christy) Tallman, his two daughters, Tamara L. (Sean) Step and Kathryn M. (Caleb) Canada. Stephen is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Donna S. (Rick) Cass, and one aunt, Juanita Tallman, as well as three cousins.

Stephen served his country in the United States Army Reserve for six years. He had a deep respect for American veterans, the American Flag, and our nation’s symbol, the Bald Eagle. His mother served in the Royal Air Force and his father was a decorated veteran of WWII serving as a tank commander under General Patton.

Stephen began his career as an auto service manager and then followed his dream to serve in police and security work. He served his community as a City of Danville Police Officer, volunteered in the Danville Auxiliary Police, and retired as Supervisor of Security at Bunge Milling in Danville.

Stephen served as a church usher for over 25 years. He was proud of his family and loved gathering with them for holiday and birthday celebrations. He particularly enjoyed bantering with family members over their diverse football team loyalties. He’ll always be remembered for his disarming smile, his teasing nature, and favorite phrases like, “Finer than Frog Hair” and “You’ll be the last one laid off”. He was always sensitive to those in need, generous in giving, and quick to pray for others. His devotion to God and family will continue to impact others for years to come.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Hope Unlimited Church in Danville, Illinois, 428 N Walnut Street Danville, Illinois 61832.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:30 PM on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Hope Unlimited Church.

Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
