Stephen Russell Flaherty

Indianapolis, Ind. Stephen Russell Flaherty, 83, of Indianapolis, IN., and formerly of Danville, IL., passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was born September 17, 1940, in Danville, IL., son of the late Russell James and Beatrice (Hilton) Flaherty

Stephen married Retha Butts on April 17, 1966, in Danville, IL., and she survives.

Other survivors include his daughter: Megan (Brian) Page of Indianapolis, IN; a brother: Thomas A. Flaherty of Medford, OR; and one granddaughter: Abby Page of Indianapolis, IN.

Stephen was a graduate of Danville High School. Upon graduation, he served his country honorably for 6 years in the Indiana Air National Guard. After working in Danville for many years, the company he worked for transferred to Indianapolis where he worked as a sales manager for Kone Elevators until his retirement. A true gentleman at heart, Stephen always looked forward to his 10PM "date" every evening with Retha where they shared tea, snacks and talking with each other. He always made it a point to spend time with his classmates from Danville High School as well. He and Retha enjoyed making trips back to Danville where they would get together for brunch and fellowship with friends and classmates. When he wasnt with friends, Stephen could be found on the golf course playing a round of golf, kicked back watching racing on the TV, or in the kitchen where he found a new love of cooking in his later years. Above all, Stephen loved all the time he spent with his family.

A Celebration of Life for Stephen will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 3PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street Danville, IL., 61834 with Pastor James Blue officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 1pm-3pm Friday, December 1, 2023, at the funeral home.
