Stephen Carroll

Stephen W. Carroll, better known as Steve, was born on November 22, 1947, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, in Danville, Illinois. He lived a life filled with purpose and dedication, with a career as a machinist at Estad, where his skills were not just a means of livelihood but also a testament to his craftsmanship.

Steve graduated from Georgetown High School, Class of 1966, after which he answered the call of duty and served in the United States Army in Vietnam. His commitment to community and service extended beyond his military tenure, as he became actively involved with the Georgetown United Methodist Church and the Vermilion Grove Friends Church, where he found joy in his faith and fellowship. The Community luncheon, hosted by the Georgetown United Methodist Church, was his brainchild.

Known for his warm personality, Steve was described as someone who "never met a stranger" and possessed a heart of gold. His kindness and sincerity left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Steve cherished his memories, particularly those created while traveling across all 50 states—a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for exploration. His hobbies included dancing, fishing, and writing; he even wrote a couple of books during his lifetime. He was deeply devoted to the Lord, and his faith played an integral role in his daily life.

Steve is survived by his beloved sister, Cindy Carroll, and the original baker's dozen Carroll cousins: Russell (Susan) Bowlin, Kay (Alan) Pigg, Sharon Carroll, Lana McWilliams, Jim (Jamie) Dodson, Carole Tucker, Susan (Mark) Nave, and Mike Dodson. He is also remembered by his special friends Bob and Betty Nicklas, Phillip Coate, Bill (Mindy) Meeker, and Phyllis Fraser, along with many other cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Carroll, and his mother, LaVerne (Hoots) Carroll, as well as cousins Terry Dodson, Stan Fowler, and Alan Carroll.
