Stephen Dominic Bianchetta was born on May 4, 1931. His death was 92 years later on May 4, 2023. His birth was announced by a white sheet hanging over the mountain side. His death was announced with the American flag draped over his body.
Our father was born in Cogne, Italy. He was the youngest son of Frank and Prosperina Bianchetta. At 18 months our father, our Nonna, Uncle Caesar, and Uncle Ernest made their first trip to America. At the age of 3, Dad and his family returned to America by way of a Liverpool ocean liner. The Bianchetta family made their home in Bunsenville, Illinois. Dad always told us he had a happy childhood. In 1949, he graduated from Georgetown High and then enlisted in the Air Force. He was always a proud American veteran of the Korean War. He met our mother Patricia Woodard at an outdoor movie and immediately fell in love. They were married in July of 1955 at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Georgetown, Illinois.
As the patriarch of our family, he had an unquestionable love for each of us. He was the proud father of Steve and Tricia, LaDonna and Gary, and Jim and Julie. He adored his grandchildren: Stephen and Katie, Joel and Cheri, Cary, Cody and Tanner, Amanda and Sam, Cal and Justine. Dad had a special place in his heart for his great grandchildren: Maydelle Rose, Luanne Patrica, Hayden Asher, and Willa May.
Our father was a hard worker and taught us so many things by sharing his passions in life. He loved his dog Chip. He loved being outdoors working in his garden. In his younger years, he was an avid outdoorsman- fishing and hunting especially with his sons. He always enjoyed watching the Illini, the White Sox, and his grandchildren participating in sports or school activities. Our dad could take nothing and make it into something special.
Dad ended his journey under the care of the staff of angels at the Honor House at the Danville Veterans Affairs.
Each of our hearts is breaking which is a true testament of our love for our husband, father, grandpa, and gpa. He was our hero. We will love him for a million years.
