Danville - Stanley E. Schofield, 90, of Danville passed away at 3:00 AM on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. He was born on December 16, 1924 in Rankin, IL to Clyde and Lillian (Custer) Schofield. He married Shirley J. Sloan on September 8, 1946 in Rankin, IL. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2012. He is survived by two sons, Bruce (Barbara) Schofield of Danville and Brad Schofield of Danville; daughter, Marcia Schofield of Danville; a brother, James (Deniece) Schofield of Las Vegas, NV and a sister, Maxine (Gordon) Edgington of Danville; three grandchildren, Andrew Schofield, Travis (Blake) Schofield, and Robert (Melissa) Raguet-Schofield; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother. Stan served his country proudly during WWII in the United States Army Air Force. Starting in 1944 he flew a full compliment of missions as a Tail Gunner in a B17 Bomber, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He went on to gain employment at the Danville VA as the Chief of Corrective Therapy, retiring after 35 years of service. Stan also achieved the rank of 32 degree Mason and was a member of the American Legion Post #210 where he was involved in the Post 210 Baseball program. He loved Illini sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Stan could also be found playing harmonica and guitar for his "hootenannies", fishing, driving off the beaten path, and camping with his family. A service to celebrate the life of Stanley Schofield will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Zach Lecrone will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service on Saturday, also at Sunset in Danville.
