Stanley L. Povilaitis, 86, of Westville passed away on January 2, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born July 3, 1937 in Danville to parents Thelma and Stanley Povilaitis. They preceded him in death.
Stanley worked at General Electric Valmont for over 30 years before his retirement. Even upon "retiring", Stanley continued to stay busy and purchased Shannons Title and License Shop. He also was Fire Chief for the Westville Area Fire Protection District. It was a position he proudly held for over 30 years. Stanley was a dedicated fan of the local bands, so much in fact he never missed a show. He was also an amateur archaeologist. Whether it was presentations for the elementary students or articles about his rocks in magazines, Stanley loved sharing his passion with others. He had a cemented love for cats as well. He was known to have several at a time throughout his lifetime.
Stanley married Altona "Toni" Clark on March 14, 1965 in Paris, Illinois. They shared a wonderful 58 years together before his passing. She survives. Also surviving are their children Kathi Swaney, Shelley (Rick) Peelman, Teresa (Brad Hay) Hudock, Clark (Lynn Wicoff) Huffman, and Cynthia (Kenny) Povilaitis-Delanois and grandchildren Rhiannon (Swaney) Russell, Kyle Swaney, Aaron (Clint Oldham) Swaney, Ryan (Jo) Peelman, Aaron Peelman, Carlee (Josh) Sluder, Tess (Wade) Everhart, John Delanois, Christopher Povilaitis-Richardson, and Dominik Povilaitis-Delanois. He is survived by his great-grandchildren Ryman, Silas, Kyler, Cash, Christian, Rosie, Beatrix, Ada, and Walter; his sister Louanne Parrish; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat Bella.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 10 am to 1 pm at Trinity United Church of Christ, located at 311 E. Moses Avenue, in Westville. A memorial service celebrating his life will begin at 1 pm following the visitation. Pastor David Robert-Mosser will be officiating. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Trinity United Church of Christ or to the Westville Area Fire Protection District.
