Stanley Melecosky, 75, of Westville, IL, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, laughter, and love. Born and raised in Westville, Stan was a devout Catholic, deeply committed to his religious faith and proud of his Lithuanian heritage. Stan had a knack for bringing smiles to everyone he met, often introducing himself with a laugh as "Stosh Skilldeputski."
A 1967 graduate of Westville High School, Stan proudly wore the number 36 and called himself a “jack of all trades but master of none.” Stan loved camping, hunting, and fishing with his buddies and his son, Jeff. He was always finding an occasion to wear a flashy suit—especially his unforgettable lime green one, which was sure to make any room brighter.
Above all, his family was his greatest joy and priority in life. Though he was only a father to two, he was a dad and Papaw to all, and some of his best moments in life were spent with his grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Scarlett, his devoted children, Jeff and Rhonda, his favorite son-in-law Adam Johnson, and his three grandchildren, Kayne, Maddy, and Tayler. He also leaves behind his four siblings, Tim (Debbie), Marcie, Charlie (Sheila), and Joey (Anna).
Stan was preceded in death by his parents and his baby brother, James Michael. Though he is no longer with us, the warmth of his humor, his strong faith, his flair for life, and his love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 2pm – 6pm at Sunset Funeral Home’s Urbas Chapel, located at 414 S. State Street in Westville. The Rosary will be recited at 2 pm prior to the family receiving guests on Thursday. A Funeral Mass will take place the following morning on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, located at 231 N. State Street, in Westville. Father Steven Loftus will lead Mass that morning. Following Mass, Stan will be placed to rest at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, also in Westville. A gathering at the Westville American Legion will follow services Friday from 12- 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Stan’s name to the Bladder Cancer Society. Online condolences and fond memories can be shared with his family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
As Stan would say, "And I'm off like a turd of hurdles. God bless you.”
