STANLEY A. DAWLESS JR. Former Vermilion County Board Chairman Stanley A. Dawless Jr., 82, of Danville, died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at VA Illiana Healthcare Systems in Danville. Stan was born Sept. 13, 1927, in Coral Gables, Florida, the son of Stanley A. and Margaret (Moore) Dawless. He married Barbara Linne on April 12, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Lori (David) Haller of Adrian, Mich.; two grandsons, Aaron (Meisha) Haller of Tuscon, Ariz. and Adam Haller of Adrian; a sister, Margaret Sepich of Lafayette, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Roberta Dawless of Jacksonville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, and special friends Roy Butler, Don Cunningham and Bill Seidler, all of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward Dawless. Stan was an Eagle Scout, a Navy veteran of World War II and a 1946 graduate of Danville High School. He earned a bachelors degree in business from Eureka College, Eureka, Ill., and worked for the Hyster Company for 32 years. He served on the Vermilion County Board for 23 years, and was a past board chairman. Stanley was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was an elder and was involved in the mens club. He was active in the Golden K Kiwanis, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, CRIS Board, Immanuel Senior Residence Board, Curtis G. Redden American Legion Post 210 and Military Post 210, Danville. Stanley was a Reagan Republican, an avid fisherman, an Illini fan and a proud grandfather. He enjoyed community service, church work and spending time with family and friends. A celebration of the life of Stanley A. Dawless Jr. will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Pastor Daniel Fienen officiating. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at the funeral home. Following his wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest at the Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
