Sonya Joan Kington

Champaign - Sonya Joan Kington, 78, passed away on Saturday June 10, 2017 at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana, IL. She was born on November 6, 1938 to John and Lorabelle (Martin) Samara in Urbana. Sonya married Joseph Irvin Kington Sr. in 1955 in Champaign, IL. Sonya is survived by her children Pamela (Jeffrey) Samara-Ballew, Mark Kington, Tina Kington, Jeff Kington, Joseph (Paula) Kington Jr., and Lydia (Ryan Floyd) Kington; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Sherry) Griffith; and son-in-law Terry Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Paula Kington-Miller, son Fred Kington, and brother John Griffith. Sonya enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, and antiques. She loved children and was a mother to everyone. Cremation rites have been allotted through Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, IL 61820. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Sonya's name to Champaign County Nursing Home or the Alzheimer's Association.
