Sonna Delhaye

Sonna Delhaye, 71 of Westville passed away peacefully August 27, 2010 at home after a courageous battle against ALS. She was born August 9, 1939 in Danville, the daughter of the late Russell and Gertrude Shaw. She married George Delhaye on September 13, 1957 at the Congregational Church in Westville. He survives. Other survivors who will miss her deeply include: her children, Jim (Christine), Gary (Theresa), Georgette (Charlie) Sermersheim; and her grandchildren Joey, Elly and Maddy Sermersheim, all from Westville. She is also survived by two step grandchildren, Amy Lester and Erick Story. Sonna is also survived by her brother, Russell Shaw Jr. of St. Petersburg, Florida and Darla Payne of Westville as well as several nieces and nephews. Sonna worked at The Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator, the Westville School District as an office assistant and later at the Danville Beauty School. She enjoyed each day she could spend with her family, friends and all of her wonderful caregivers and for the personal care given by Carle Hospice. The family wishes to thank all the special volunteers who helped through her illness. Sonna was a homemaker and enjoyed being a part of every family members lives throughout all of their activities. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, crocheting and visiting antique shops and her personal collection of Lady Headvases. Visitation will be Sunday from 4PM " 8PM at Sunset Urbas Funeral Home in Westville. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 10:00 AM at Trinity United Church of Christ in Westville with Connie Bandy officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Sandusky Cemetery east of Westville. A lunch will be served at Trinity United Church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Trinity United Church of Christ, The Westville Public Library or The Westville Depot.
