Shirley Smith

Shirley Ann Smith, 91, of Euless, TX, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away on June 14, 2025, at Meadowood Assisted Living in Grapevine, TX.

She was born on August 11, 1933, in Kokomo, IN, the daughter of Clyde and Esther (Snow) Hamilton. On August 17, 1957, she married Otah W. Smith in Kokomo. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2005.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Diana Kay Smith of Euless, TX, and her son, Brian Todd Hamilton of Philadelphia, PA, as well as her beloved Westie, Cody. She is also lovingly remembered by her grand-dogs: Casey, Jax, Jamie, and Brodie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Otah W. Smith, and two siblings, Richard Hamilton and Carolyn Sue Davenport.

Shirley was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene in Danville, IL, and devoted over 30 years to teaching first grade in Danville School District 118. She and her dear friend, Jenny Mechalas, enjoyed daily walks from her home on Townway to Lake Vermilion. Shirley had a passion for reading, caring for her dog, and dining out with friends. She also loved to travel, visiting numerous states across the U.S. and making several trips to Europe.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2025 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Shirley’s memory to Danville First Church of the Nazarene or Samaritan’s Purse.
