Shirley Rae Coake

Shirley Rae Coake, 80, of Covington, IN, passed away at 5:12 PM on December 31, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

Shirley was born on July 17, 1943, the daughter of Raymond and Genevieve Eileen (Marshall) Rouse in Danville, IL. She married Richard Coake on August 14, 1966, in Danville. He preceded her in death.

She leaves behind two daughters, Debra (Tracy) Taulman of Danville, IL, and Cheryl (David) Cross of Burlington, WI; one brother, Russell (Karin) Rouse of Oxford, GA; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jake) Martin, Zachary Taulman, Jonathan Cross, Rebecca Cross, Lydia Cross, Michael Cross, and Faith Cross, as well as two great granddaughters, Annabelle and Raeleigh Martin.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents.

Shirley loved God and served her community while attending Community Church of God and most recently Coal Branch Independent Church. She retired from North Vermillion as a junior high science teacher in May of 2000. Shirley loved her family dearly and would do anything for them. She also greatly enjoyed spending time with friends. Her hobbies included feeding hummingbirds, watching wildlife, and entertaining her guests. Shirley was loved by many for her caring attitude and her love for helping anyone in need.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM EST at Sunset Funeral Homes Covington Chapel, located at 420 Third Street in Covington. A funeral service celebrating Shirleys life will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM EST, also at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest following services at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville next to Richard. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the ministry of Cheryl Cross at Professionals Global (www.professionalsglobal.org/give) or to Coal Branch Church, at PO Box 433 in Perrysville, Indiana.
