Shirley Quick

Shirley Quick, 81, of Catlin passed away on February 28, 2014 at 12:40 a.m. at Presence United Medical Center in Danville. She was born on July 7, 1932 in Danville, the daughter of Eli and Edna Mildred (Hubert) Haurez Jr. She married Walter Byron “Barney” English on May 20, 1950, then married John A. Dickson, who preceded her in death in 1980. She will be deeply missed by one son, Erick (Crystal) English of Danville; three daughters, Deborah (Larry) Wickens of Newport, IN; Margaret English of Covington, IN; and Beth (James) Wheat of Aurora, IN; one brother, Jack (Evelyn) Haurez of Lake Placid, Florida; nine grandchildren, Jamie (Jody) Heistand; Jesse (Cara) Wickens; Karen (Johnathan) Ervin; Justin (Kristen) English; Ashley English; John English; Jonathan, Adam, and Makenzie Wheat; eight great-granchildren; Emilee, Abigail and Ian Farley; Caylen Wickens; Brooklynn Strawser; Addison English, Avery English and Vance Wheat; two very special friends, Pat Cunningham and Nancy Fields. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and one daughter, Karen Elizabeth English. Shirley graduated from Danville High School and Danville Area Community College nursing program. She began her career as a surgical nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital before owning her own swimming pool retail business for over 20 years. She was a member of the Red Hats Society and the Queens Counsel. She was the secretary of the Illiana Antique Auto Club for 10 years and a dedicated supporter of the Newport Antique Auto Hill Climb. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles, needlepoint, reading, going to car shows and especially spending time with her grandkids and family. A celebration of Shirleys life will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Pastor Dave Wickens officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Greenview Cemetery in Fairmount, IL. Memorials can be made in Shirleys name to the Illiana Antique Auto Club of Danville.
