Shirley Marie Thompson

Shirley M. Thompson passed away February 24, 2021 at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. She was born on August 30, 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky to James and Mary Downs. They preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her husband Buddy Thompson, son Doyle "Mike" Thompson, sister Patsy Cooksey, and brothers Larry and JB Downs.

She is survived by her sons Ronald Thompson of Swansea, SC and Timothy (Leslea) Thompson of Georgetown, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-children. Her sisters Carolyn Emerson of Danville, IL, Sue Webb of Norman, OK, and Sheila Magdalena of Waterford, MI also survive.

Shirley was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and loved her grandchildren more than anything. She enjoyed working in her garden with her flowers and quilting.

A funeral service in honor of Shirley will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville, Illinois. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm also at the funeral home on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Shirleys name in honor of her son Mike.
