Shirley Mae Vyse

Shirley Mae Vyse, 86, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away on July 22, 2025, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Williamsport, Indiana. Born on August 14, 1938, in Hoopeston, Illinois. She married Darrell Austin Vyse on July 25, 1964, they celebrated 49 1/2 years together. Shirley was known for her vibrant spirit and warmth, making her a joy to be around for all who knew her.

Shirley's career at the office of children and family services exemplified her dedication to helping others. Her professional life centered on supporting families in need, a reflection of her own values and commitment to community service. She carried this nurturing spirit into her personal life, always cherishing the time spent with her family. Shirley loved nothing more than gathering her loved ones around her, creating lasting memories that will continue to resonate with those she touched.

In her leisure time, Shirley found great pleasure in reading, shopping, and taking trips to Chicago to visit friends. These hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to cultivate deep and meaningful relationships. Her love for adventure and connection was evident, as she enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to be in her presence.

Shirley is survived by her nieces, Marry (Larry) Taylor Rebecca (Chris) Huguelet; her nephews, John (Alayne) Ferguson and Adool (Norlyn) Ferguson; along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thank you to Rita and Charlotte for their unwavering love and support during this time.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, John Sam Ferguson; her mother, Gladys Iris (Groce) Ferguson; her daughter, Crystal Lynn Ferguson; her husband, Darrell Vyse; and her brother, James Lee Ferguson. Each of these individuals held a special place in her heart, and their memories will live on in the stories and affection shared by her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 2, 2025, at 4pm est. at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center's Covington Chapel, located at 420 3rd St, Covington, IN 47932. Visitation will be Saturday as well at the funeral home 2-4pm est. Burial will be at a later date at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, Illinois.
