Shirley A. Kuhn, 89, of Danville passed away May 2, 2023. She was born in Bryan, Ohio on July 5th, 1933. She was the only child of Arthur and Margaret Ruth (Kintner) Morton.
Shirley attended Toledo School of Nursing, married Max Thompson, and was widowed at age 21. She raised her young daughter, Kristina, in Bryan until meeting Kenneth Kuhn, an engineering student at Tri-State University, on a blind date. They were married on August 25th, 1957, and were together for 65 years.
Ken and Shirley moved to Danville, Illinois and had two more children, Stephen and Kathy. Shirley enjoyed staying home to raise her children and was very involved in their church, Immanuel Lutheran. In her early 40s Shirley went back to school at DACC and graduated with an Early Education degree. She taught Pre-School at Danville Lutheran School for 16 years. In later years she tutored at Danville Lutheran School and Danville Area Community College in the Readers Route.
Over the years Shirley served her church as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School for 25 years, was active in Parish Education and served as Cradle Role Chairman for many years. She also served on the Board of Directors of Immanuel Lutheran Manor as secretary for 20 years. Shirley and Ken also visited sick and shut-in members of Immanuel and their friends for many years and continued to do so until just recently due to health issues. Shirley had a true "servants heart" and was involved in her church and community throughout her entire life.
Shirley enjoyed attending Bible Studies, ballroom dancing, traveling, and camping in their RV but most of all she treasured spending time with her family, especially with her grand and great grandchildren.
Shirley was loved by many, and her memory will be cherished by her family and extended family including several nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors who were like family, and the many friends she made over the years, especially in her congregation and community.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Kenneth, daughter Kristina (Steve) Thomas from Poplar Grove, IL, son Stephen (Miriam) Kuhn from Findlay, OH, daughter, Kathy (Dan) Koeneman from Dallas, TX, eight grandchildren, Blake (Jen) Thomas, Austin (Katie) Thomas, Lindsey Thomas, Matthew (Paige) Koeneman, Nathan (Julie) Koeneman, Rebekah Koeneman, Kayli (Brandon) Smith, Kevin Kuhn, nine great grandchildren, Makayla, Maddox, Samantha, Lucy, Saoirse, Darby, Amelia, Levi and Harrison.
