Shirley Johnson

Shirley Johnson, 82, of Champaign, IL. passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, in Champaign, IL. She was born in Urbana, IL. the daughter of Clarence and Ilene (Ronk) Smith.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Nancy) Johnson, Jeffery (Maggie) Johnson, daughters, Denise (Chris) Hoffman, Stephanie (Greg) Moudy, siblings, Ronald (Janet) Smith, William (Merry) Smith, J.R. (Brenda) Robinson, Bill (Jeanne) Umphenour, Karen Smith, Albert Smith, Wesley Smith, Clyde Smith, Raymond Smith, grandchildren, Sawyer, Dylan, Brandon, Elly, Quinn, Cora, Audra, Blake and former spouse James Johnson.

Shirley was employed with Champaign Unit 4 schools where she was a typist in the Mellon building retiring after forty years. She was a member of the Association of The Blind and the Mother of Twins Club of Champaign Urbana at one time serving at president. She enjoyed listening to country music, going for rides on her tandem bicycle, chatting on her CB radio, and spending time with her family and friends.

She will be remembered as a kind and generous soul. She was a loving mother and friend to many; always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

She was preceded in death by her parents, foster parents, Ruth and Everett Umphenour, brother, Frank Smith, siblings, Carol Mathews, Margaret Smith and Larry Smith, foster brothers, Tom and Gerry Umphenour, and foster sisters, Dorothy Harp and Betty Tables.

Memorials may be made in Shirleys name to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, Cunningham Childrens Home or the American Foundation for the Blind.

Shirley will be interred at Mount Hope Cemetery in Champaign, County. Services will be private.
