Shirley Jean Bartley

Shirley Jean Bartley, 88, of Westville passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville. She was born at home on February 8, 1936 to parents Dayton and Ruth Elliot Carter.

Proud of being born and raised in Georgetown, Shirley attended Georgetown Schools. After school, she worked at GE until she married Creed Bartley and when the opportunity to stay home to raise her children presented itself, she took it. Shirley always looked forward to the family camping trips to Raccoon Lake while the kids were young. She was known for her good cooking and could usually be found playing the slots or Bingo and doing scratch-off tickets. It was not uncommon to arrive at her home to find the Hallmark Channel on. Even if it was in the middle of July, Shirley could be seen watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. Above all else, Shirley loved her grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them. She had a huge heart and more than just her biological grandchildren called her grandma.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Susan Atwood; her grandchildren Erica (Scott) Hoskins, Tammy (Gamal) Wilson, Hayley (Manny) Hoskins, Kane (Taylor) Atwood, Andi Atwood, and Dixie (Mathias) Atwood; and her greatgrandchildren Makenzie, Samuel, Jaydon, Kendall, Jocelyn, Emberlyn, Addison, Alora, Ellie, Daisy, Della, Preston, and Matthew. She also leaves behind her great-greatgrandchildren Kaydence, Keegan, Kamden, Amilya, Trinity, Jayla, Jayden, Journee, Julian, Kayzley, and MeiLani and her siblings Maxine Morrison and Keith (Nancy) Carter. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Trevor Stewart for his role as a caretaker for Shirley.

She was preceded in death by her husband Creed, her son Daniel Bartley, and her daughter Pam Hoskins in addition to her siblings Vivian, June, Ernie, Betty, Don, and Berniece.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 10 am until 12 pm at Sunset Funeral Homes Houghton Leasure Chapel, located at 200 E. West Street in Georgetown. A funeral service celebrating her life will follow at 12 pm. Pastor Steve Pearson will be officiating. She will be buried in Georgetown Cemetery next to Daniel following services on Saturday.
