Shirley J. Davis

Shirley J. (Cox) Davis, 79, a lifetime resident of Danville, died at 10:06am on Monday, August 23, 2010 at her home. She was born on June 10, 1931, the daughter of Thomas J. Cox, and Gertrude (Lenhert) Cox. She married Ronald D. Davis on June 9, 1951 in Danville. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1999. Survivors include two daughters, Paula Jackman of Danville, and Penny (Doug) Simper of Peoria, IL. Her sister-in-law, Marsha Bolster of Catlin, two brothers-in-law, Jerry Davis and Scott Davis, both of Danville, 3 grandchildren, Kelly Williams of Erlanger, KY, Tiffany Jackman of Danville, and Ashley Simper of Peoria. 3 great grandchildren, Dacia, Taylor, Jayden, 2 nieces, Gretchen Aurand of Lakewood, Col., Joanne Carpenter of Veedersburg, IN, and 2 nephews, Tom Cox, and Larry Cox, both of Danville, also survive Shirley. Her parents, one brother, Franklin Cox, and one sister, Martha Adamson preceded Shirley in death. Shirley retired as a Cosmetologist, in 1953, and continued working as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many people. A Celebration of Shirley Daviss Life will begin at 11:00am on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville with private entombment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-7pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the funeral home.
