Shirley Gunia

Tilton- Shirley Gunia, 92, of Tilton passed away at 11:35 PM on June 24, 2019 at Palm Terrace in Mattoon, IL. She was born on September 5, 1926 in Danville, IL the daughter of William and Erna (Natho) Berthold. She married Walter J. Gunia on August 8, 1948 in Danville at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2012.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Robert) Streuer of Tilton; one son, Michael (Kathy) Gunia of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, Steven (Sommer) Gunia of Scottsdale, AZ, Joe (Laura) Gunia of Tuscon, AZ, Rebecca (Roger) Williams of Tucson, AZ, Melissa (Barry) Blankman of Lafayette, IN, and Amber (Nate) Byram of Danville; and six great-grandchildren, Chase and Zoe Gunia, Michael and Makayla Williams, Brandon Coe, Dylan Park, and Presley and Reagan Byram.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Walter and one son; Jeffery Gunia.

Shirley was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a Registered Nurse and Head of nursing staff in the Orthopedic Department at St. Elisabeth Hospital in Danville, IL. She enjoyed spending her free time reading, listening to music, crocheting, sewing and doing craft projects. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys Football Fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR. In her younger years, she loved to take annual family vacations and visit with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61834 with Reverend Phil Callahan officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019, from 10:00 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
