Shirley Bartlow

Shirley Bartlow, 77, of Danville passed away at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Shirley was born on December 23, 1934 the daughter of Robert Dale and Livona May (Grubbs) Wann. She married Orland LeRoy Bartlow on February 26, 1955 in Danville. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1982. She is survived by one daughter- Shelley Whitman of Danville, two sons- Kevin (Mary Buck) Bartlow of Danville and Alan (Jerilene) Bartlow of Monticello, IN, one sister- Roberta (Gerald) Whittington of Kingman, IN, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two very special sisters-in-law- Jane Wann and Mary Jane Wann. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son- Orland "OJ" "Doc" Bartlow, two brothers- Max and Sheldon Wann and two nephews. Shirley graduated from Kingman High School in 1952 then went on to get her Bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing. After graduating she began working at St. Elizabeth's Hospital as Associate Director of Nursing for several years and through its transition into Provena United Samaritans Medical Center where she retired after 41 years of service. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville. Shirley loved traveling, gardening, ceramics, camping, crossword puzzles, flea markets, collecting paper weights, watching Illini sports and most of all spending time with her family. She also loved her cat and best friend Miss Kitty. A Celebration of Life Mass for Shirley Bartlow will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville with Fr. Ted Pracz officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Burial will take place at Resurrection cemetery in Danville. Memorials can be made in Shirley's name to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
