Danville - Shirley Ann Hawes Norton, born June 27, 1935, claimed victory over her battle with cancer and was promoted to heaven on October 13, 2021, where she now lives for eternity, cancer free. The reunion there was glorious as she was welcomed into the loving arms of her lord and savior, Jesus Christ. The celebration continued as she was greeted by the loved ones she has grieved the loss of since their departure from this earth. Her beautiful baby daughter, Lori Ann and her crazy, devoted son Jerry (aka Moose) welcomed her home with open arms. The love of her life, Jerry whom she referred to as "Rick" since he claimed that was his name when they first met, thanked God for making her whole again and bringing her home at last. He filled her heart, and their home, with laughter by being even crazier than his son, crazy 2.0. Her oldest sister Dorothy was right there with the welcoming crew, teasing her as older siblings do, that she got there first! Her parents, Alma Mae Chant Hawes and Olice Vern Hawes welcomed their middle child into the kingdom with the biggest smiles, and tightest hugs, perhaps heaven has ever seen. The welcoming committee included many other loved ones that were elated to have her home with them.
She left behind three daughters: Her favorite daughter, Debra Wilson (Larry), Wendy Kennedy (Jim), and Rosemary Wynn (Dennis Myers). The truth is, they were all three her favorites. She loved them fiercely and they filled her heart with love and great pride. Her girls will miss her with every breath they take.
Shirleys youngest sister Barbara, (Barb), survives. She is now grieving the loss of both of her sisters but is comforted in knowing that God promises eternal life.
Shirley was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. They were all her pride and joy. She loved them, "A bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck." She leaves behind 5 nieces and a nephew that she considered her kids too. She enjoyed her role as their "second mom" and loved them with her whole heart. There are also numerous great nieces and nephews that God blessed her with. They had very special places in her heart too.
