Shirley Ann Laird

Danville - Shirley Ann (Miller) Laird, 85, of Danville passed away at 2:10 am on February 16, 2018 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. Shirley was born in Danville, IL on December 7, 1932 the daughter of Richard Charles and Reva Sarah (Scott) Miller. She married the love of her life, William "Bill" Louis Laird on August 11, 1950 at Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2012. Shirley is survived by one son, William Gene (Sherrie) Laird of Cape Coral, FL; three daughters, Nancy Ann Harper of Englewood, FL; Karen Sue (Jeff) Leeman of Pekin, IL; and Deanna Kay (Joe) Cuddihy of Denver, CO, two brothers, Richard (Judy) Miller of Mishawaka, IN and Ronald (Jackie) Miller of Danville. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Jason Gene Laird of Cape Coral, FL; Daniel William Laird of Rossville, IL; Amanda Rose (Josh) Drude of Danville, Michael Allen (Amanda) Dodson of Knoxville, TN; Melissa Sarah Dodson of Knoxville, TN; Matthew James Ashby of Texas; Joseph J. (Nadia) Leeman of Indianapolis, IN; Bethany Grace (Erik) Nelson of Grovetown, GA; Benjamin David Leeman of Pekin, IL; and Aubrey Lorianna Cuddihy of Denver, CO. and fourteen great-grandchildren: Kyler, Madisun, Macy, & Grayson Laird; Logan & Gage Laird; Noah, Owen, & Evan Drude; Sarah & Benjamin Dodson; Jacob Ashby; and Abram and Moses Nelson. Shirley is preceded in death by her father; Richard in May of 1959 and her mother; Reva on December 31, 1992, her Husband; William, and one brother; Robert Swinford on June 25, 2007. Shirley was a lifelong resident of Danville, IL and a Member of Second Church of Christ since 1940 She was a graduate of Danville High School in 1950 and was employed as a sales clerk and cashier at Zayers, Hills and Ames Department Stores for 11 years. Shirley was devoted to her Husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed dancing, especially ballroom dancing with her husband, auctions, genealogy, playing cards, BINGO, Bunco, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Dale DeNeal will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the funeral home prior to the services. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville.
