Sherry Lee Defenbaugh

Sherry Lee Thompson Defenbaugh, 65, went to be with Jesus on May 22, 2020. She was born March 27, 1955 in Chicago, IL.

Sherry felt she had a very blessed life, especially being married to her soul mate Steven Defenbaugh for 43 years. Their marriage was blessed by two beautiful children, Nicole (Lance) Wolfe of Georgetown, IL and Chad (Emily) Defenbaugh of Appleton, WI. The pride and joy of Sherrys life were six amazing grandchildren: Addison, Audrey and Ashlynn Wolfe; and Logan, Hudson, and Olivia Defenbaugh. She also leaves behind her loving parents, Faustyn "Punk" and Shirley Thompson of Georgetown, IL; a sister and best friend, Tammy Garza of Georgetown, IL; a brother, Steven (Tina) Thompson of Cayuga, IN; a special cousin, Susan McGovern, of Ridge Farm, IL; a brother-in-law, Scott (Gail) Defenbaugh of Bismarck, IL; a sister-in-law, Linda (Jim) Carey of Danville, IL, and many special nieces and nephews.

Sherrys life was also blessed by serving her Lord as a Christian Counselor. Starting her career as a part-time DCFS advocate at 19 years of age, she eventually established a private counseling practice which she retired from in November 2019.

Sherry and Steve worshipped at Ridgeview Baptist Church in Danville, IL, for 30 years and for the last 10 years attended Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL. Together they enjoyed singing in the church choir, fishing, floating in their pool at sunset, walking the ocean beach, mushroom hunting, gardening and canning, motorcycle rides, sport car and F150 cruises, and big family holiday dinners. Sherry had a special love for animals and will be missed by her pony Jewell, mini donkey Miss Ruby, and dogs Stella and Tucker.

The family would like to thank all who loved and cared for Sherry. Donations may be given in Sherrys memory to Celebrate Recovery at Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL; OSF Cancer Care in Danville, IL; or Two Roads Wellness Clinic in Danville, IL.

Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements. Due to current conditions, a celebration of life will be held at a later time at Second Church of Christ.
