ALABAMA- Sharron E. Stibbs (Mrs. Clayburn) of Arley, Alabama, formerly of Oakwood, IL, passed away at the age of 59, on February 17, 2006 at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. Mrs. Stibbs was born on January 1, 1947, in Jefferson County, AL, the daughter of Joseph A. and Hazel (Leighton) Weathers. On July 15, 1986, Sharron married Mr. Gary Stibbs in Las Vega Nevada. He resides in Alabama and will miss her dearly. Sharron leaves behind her husband Gary, her mother, Hazel, her three sons; Robert L. (Traci) Darnell of Indianola, Garrett Michael Stibbs and his friend Ann of Oakwood, Richard Darnell of Indiana and her daughter; Carla Spencer of New Mexico. Sharron is also survived by her two brothers; Joseph L (Kathy) Weathers of Danville, Michael S. (Wendy) Weathers of Utah, and her two sisters; Gwendolyn M. Kitchens of Danville, and Lura A. (Russell) Rose of Georgetown. Sharrons nine grandchildren; Tyler L. Darnell, Rileigh R. Darnell, Kierstyn A. Stibbs, Emily M. McCrone, Andy M. Clayburn, Jonathan R. Clayburn, Kaylyn Clayburn, Brenda Spencer, David Spencer, and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives in Alabama will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her father Joe and her son, Jackie Clayburn. Mrs. Stibbs achieved several degrees during her life time including: and Associates Degree from Danville Area Community College and was co-valedictorian of her graduating class. During her years at DACC, Sharron was named to the presidents list for outstanding scholastic achievements several times. She was elected to the Whos Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and initiated into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity. After junior colleges, Sharron graduated with honors from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelors of Science in Education and furthered her studies by obtaining a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Illinois. During her educational career, Sharron went from school teacher to school principal, retiring from the Jamaica Schools at the end of the 2003-04 school year. She obtain numerous awards and honors through-out her tenure including: The Council for Exceptional Children 1989-1990, The Golden Ruler Award 1991, and other outstanding achievements. Sharron enjoyed the science of Genealogy, scrap booking, boating, fishing, camping, gardening and making craft projects. She will be missed by her former students, co-workers, and friends. Per Sharrons wishes, her body was cremated and a memorial visitation for her and her family will be held at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home located at 200 E. West St. in Georgetown between 4-8pm on Friday February24, 2006, with a memorial vigil to immediately follow. Memorial donations may be made in Sharrons name to an educational program of choice.
