Sharon Sue (Prast) Fretty, 81, of Danville passed away on June 9, 2019, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL, from complications from heart surgery.
Sharon was born on June 1, 1938, the daughter of Mae and Donald Prast in Danville, IL. She married Robert Fretty on November 3, 1957, and he passed away August 8, 2016. They had been married 58 years.
She is survived by three children: Kevin Fretty and Debra (Kenneth) Gill of Danville, Karin (Carl) Merrill of Williamsport, Indiana; four grandchildren: Kaitlyn (Austin) Fretty of Monticello, Indiana, Alex Merrill of Williamsport, Indiana, and Michael and Will Gill of Danville, IL She is also survived by one sister Phyllis (Keith) Lape of Jacksonville, IL , a sister-in-law Charlotte Fretty Findley from Newburgh, Indiana, several cousins, and many nieces , nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great nephews.
Sharon was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She has lived in Danville her entire life.
Sharon graduated from Danville High School and attended Illinois State University. She worked many jobs including at the telephone company and Elder Beerman, and she also sold Avon and Tupperware. However, she especially enjoyed working for Danville District 118 as a teacher's aide. She loved helping children and was active in PTA and many school functions.
Sharon was active in several organizations. She attended meetings of Stroke Survivors and TOPS as well as both Kiwanis and Golden K and the Red Hat Society. She also was a Red Cross volunteer at the hospital.
Sharon was a people person. She never met a stranger. She really enjoyed talking and eating out, and she had her favorite restaurants. She enjoyed baking and making her famous yeast rolls. She was very determined and had great sense of humor even when she was struggling with health issues! Her grandson Mikey chauffeured her everywhere the last 3 years and he will especially miss her along with many friends and relatives.
A celebration of Sharons life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville with Pastor Ed Stone officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service. She will be entombed at Sunset Memorial Park. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 North Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834 is in charge of arrangements. Memorials can be made in her name to Bethel Lutheran Church.
