Sharon Carter Brost, 73, of Champaign, IL died Tuesday September 11, 2018, at Meadowbrook Health Center following a nine-month battle with cancer. Sharon was born February 25, 1945 in Flora, IL. The daughter of Johnnie R. and Eva Lenore (Melrose) Carter. She was the seventh of ten children. At age five Sharon's family moved to Urbana, IL where she attended Lincoln, Thornburn, and Urbana High School. She graduated from high school in 1963, after which she attended commercial college on the University of Illinois campus. Sharon worked for the Kroger Co., University of Illinois, and Meadow Gold before marrying her husband, Nicholas Paul Brost in 1980. Sharon and Paul have a daughter, Kelli Nichole Brost, who is the center of their world. Later, Sharon worked for the Unit 4 School District, and retired from the Champaign Post Office after several years of service. A large portion of Sharon's free time was spent outdoors. She loved gardening and took pride in her bountiful vegetable gardens and stunning flower beds. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating. Sharon was an outstanding cook and believed everything was better on the grill. Earlier in life, she took great pleasure in showing off her cars alongside her brothers. More recently, she reveled in the amount of delicious homemade canned goods she could process in a season. Sharon loved sharing homemade food and canned goods with those she knew would appreciate it. She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5520, and until becoming ill was active in many of their events. She was always ready to get out and go, whether visiting family, shopping, or just driving around town. The perfect end to her day would be spent relaxing by a quiet bonfire. Sharon loved hosting large family gatherings. She was known for her famous barbeques and fish fries. At some point, she had been the "fun aunt" to many of her nieces and nephews, taking them on weekend trips or spending extra time with them as children. She was always there when needed by her family. Sharon was very devoted to her mother and assisted her in every way possible for many years until she passed in 2004. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie and Eva Carter, husband N. Paul Brost, brother Frank and wife Louella Carter, niece Laurie Shaffer, sister Elnora and husband Tom Russell, brothers Russell Carter, Carroll Ray Carter, Larry Carter, Jerry Carter, and stepdaughter Jeanie Nafe.
