Danville – Sharon Jean MacArthur Black was born in Decatur, IL on November 19, 1940, the daughter of Walter Lyman “Jack” MacArthur and Bernita Jean Steinbeck MacArthur. On June 9, 1962 she married her husband of 60 years, William “Bill” B. Black. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2023.
Sharon passed away on September 16, 2025.
Sharon moved to Danville in the summer of 1954, attended 8th grade at Garfield Grade School, and graduated from Danville High School in 1959. She then went to DACC and later to EIU for a teaching degree.
Sharon and Bill had two children, Debbie (Scott) Alexander and Douglas (Dee Dee) Black; six grandchildren, Ryan Alexander, Lauren Alexander, Evan Black, Kriegh (Channah) Black, Kole Black, and Brittney Rodman; and three great grandchildren, Skyler, Cooper, and Ezekiel.
She taught at Cannon Grade School for about 30 years (and loved it).
A service to celebrate the life of Sharon Jean Black will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Cremation will follow services and burial will take place at a later date at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2-3 PM prior to the service on Sunday, also at Sunset in Danville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or Rose Feeds the Children, www.rosefeedsthechildren.com.
