Monrovia, Ind. - Sharolyn Hicks-Ackelmire, 68, of Monrovia and formerly of Perrysville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Franciscan Hospice Center in Indianapolis on July 4, 2018.
Sherry was born on March 2, 1950. She graduated from North Vermillion High School in 1968 and from Purdue University with Honors in 1972 with a degree in economics. She received her stockbrokers license in 1973 and worked at Heinold Commodities in Danville. In 1979 she received her law degree from IUPUI Law School and passed the bar that same year. She worked in criminal and civil law throughout her career. Sherry was currently residing in Monrovia, Indiana.
Sherry was a life-long learner and audited many college courses throughout her life. She loved reading, gardening, and her pets. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and taking long walks in the woods. She will be remembered for her generosity and willingness to help those most vulnerable.
Sherry is preceded in death by her husband Steve and her son, James Carl. She is survived by her parents, Carl and Delores Hicks of Perrysville, Indiana; her brothers, Larry (Sheila) Hicks and Randy (Kay) Hicks both of Perrysville, Indiana, and her sister, Sandy (Joe) Rigsby of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Sherry will also be missed by her 21 nieces and nephews, as well as 13 great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. EDT Sunday, July 22, 2018 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Lee Taylor; Burial: Hicks Cemetery, Perrysville, Indiana; Visitation: 10 a.m. EDT Sunday, July 22, 2018 until time of services at the funeral home. The family asks donations to be made to organizations that Sherry supported.
