Sergio Coronado-Mora

Sergio Coronado Mora of Chicago, IL passed away on January 20, 2025, in the loving presence of his son. Beloved father, uncle, brother, and grandfather.

 Sergio was born September 8, 1938, in Mexico City, Mexico. Sergio spent his youth in Mexico playing soccer for the National Team – Youth Division and professionally for Atlante F.C. He came to the United States in 1969, eventually moving to Danville, IL where he met his beloved wife, Georgia Diane. Sergio studied dutifully and obtained his US citizenship in 1981 and earned his General Education Degree from Danville Area Community College in 1986.

 Sergio married Georgia Diane (Wait) Coronado on June 1, 1985, in Danville. They welcomed their son Sergio Armando in 1982. Sergio and Diane enjoyed going on vacations and spending time with one another. Sergio proudly coached his son’s youth soccer teams in Danville for many years.

 Sergio worked on the finishing line at Krupp Gerlach (now known as Thyssenkrupp), where he retired in 2008.

 Sergio’s greatest joy was spending time with family. He often travelled back to Mexico and remained close with his family there. In 2023, he became a grandfather to Sophia Diane Coronado. He was also a dog lover, creating many memories with his beloved Oliver and Pearl.

 Survived by his son Sergio Armando Coronado (Amanda) of Chicago, IL; his granddaughter, Sophia Diane Coronado; brother Aron Saldaña-Mora; and many nieces and nephews.

 Preceding Sergio in death are his wife, Georgia Diane Coronado; parents, Maria Mora and Miguel Coronado; and brothers, Ernesto and Miguel. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
