Sarah Suzonne Hall-Smith, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 12, 2024. She was born on March 20, 1940, to Sarah Edwina Fly Street and Tyree Quincy Davis both of whom have preceded her in death. Sarah graduated from New College SF with a BA degree and later earned a Master degree from Merritt College of Oakland, CA. She practiced pediatric nursing for 20+ years and was a licensed day care provider for many children. Later she applied her entrepreneurial talents to owning and expanding a successful barber shop.
She was a member of Allen Temple Church located in Oakland, CA. She was happy at community work in her neighborhood providing food, clothes, and shelter to people recovering from drugs and alcohol. She was proud of being in recovery for 40+ years.
Sarah will be remembered for her raucous laughter, generosity, and compassion for people of all walks of life. She leaves behind her daughters, Sherie Hall- Caldwell (Oakland) and Valorie Hall (Atlanta), her sisters - Annette Evans (Pine Bluff, AR), Barbara Neill (VA), Pastor Shanae Dowell (Bishop Dowell) (Danville), and Theresa Cunningham (Danville), her brothers Cornell (Janet) Davis (Danville), Tyree (Dana) Davis (Danville), George F. Davis(Indianapolis, IN). Sarah adored her granddaughter Courtney Cooper (Washington, DC) , grandsons Quincy Evans (Antioch, CA), Jeffrey (Rachel) Cooper (Orlando, FL), great-granddaughters Zariah Evans (Oakland, CA), Xiania Evans (Stockton, CA), and Serenity and Soraya Cooper (Paris, CA), great-grandsons Emari, Tyriq, Elijah, and Isaiah Evans (Stockton, CA) and many very special nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and caretakers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas Hall, mother Sarah Edwina Fly Street, father Tyree Q. (Lillian) Davis, sister Sharon Street, and brothers Chuckie Davis and Que (Sonny) Martin.
Sarah will always be remembered as a shining example of love, hope, and courage. Her life was a testament to the power of the human spirit, and her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
A Celebration of Life for Sarah will be held at 10AM on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street in Danville, Illinois. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5PM-7PM on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the funeral home.
