Sandra Sykes

Sandra K. (McCorkle) Sykes, 76, of Danville passed away at 12:50pm, Monday, May 20, 2019 at Hawthorne Inn, Danville. She was born on November 9, 1942, in Georgetown the daughter of Orville and Margaret {Evans} Bonebrake. She was united marriage to John Sykes in June of 2006. He will miss her dearly.

She is also survived by: her sons, Mike (Cheryl) McCorkle & Martin (Jeanie) McCorkle; her daughter, Micki (Rodney) Buckham; her stepson, Scott (Jessica) Sykes; her stepdaughter, Lori (Bob) Pell; her brothers, Charles (Bernadine) Bonebrake, Dave (Pam) Bonebrake, & Jim (Kay) Bonebrake; her sister, Donna Bonebrake; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Kia) McCorkle, Elijah McCorkle, Zayne (Megan) McCorkle, Kala (Kevin) Flinn, Kimberly & Kassie McCorkle, Larry J. Bratton, Laikin (Matt) Maddox, Josh Sollars, Alyssa Sollars, Tyler Sollars, Alli Pell, Katy Pell, Jordan Shelley, Preston Parker, Jacob Sykes, & Kaylee Sykes; and her seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, David Oliver McCorkle; her stepmom, Mary Knolls.

Sandra worked at Washington School in Danville as the secretary and at District 118 Administration office. Her and David co-owned the Donut Shop. She also worked for Danville Sanitation District and City of Danville Alderman as well as Danville Mass Transit. With her love of everything organized, Sandra had a love of post-it notes, paper clips, rubber bands, & highlighters. She was a professional secretary to the end and lived her life with meticulousness joy every day. She loved to travel and served as a 4-H Leader, as well as a Rainbow Leader. She loved her kids & grandkids and spending time with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Sandras life will be held at 10:00am, Friday, May 24, 2019, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Georgetown, located at 200 E West St. Visitation will be 4:00pm-7:00pm, Thursday, May 23, 2019, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given in her name to Grape Creek Church.
